A House From Kerala

For the last two and a half years Sudhesh Unniraman has been filming the restoration of a wooden house that has been dismantled from its original site in Kerala, Southern India, and restored 3000 km away in Haryana in the North.

The film raises issues about conservation practice, adaptive reuse of older buildings and the need to preserve knowledge and skills related to wood building architecture. India has a tradition of wood building which was practiced by a community of master carpenters but this has fallen into disuse with growing popularity of cement and other materials.
